I have to admit that I was using the term Project History Book as a euphemism for my overall professional experience … I tend to describe my background in terms of project stories. But now that you mention it, my history does take a couple of physical forms. My reviews from managers were always preceded by my own list of accomplishments that year – the role I played and the impact to the projects. When I shifted jobs these experiences were added to a list that I use to track and categorize types of experience when job hunting, along with related paragraphs to insert in a cover letter or resume. Then along came the CBAP, so I had to revisit those reviews and more recent consultant timesheets to estimate the hours of experience in CBAP categories. I’m pretty techno-simple so just a spreadsheet does it for me. I also keep a paper and electronic portfolio of sharable work samples organized by project to have handy before interviews.

I wonder how others organize their personal project metadata and artifacts. Does anyone have more enlightened suggestions? Does IIBA offer a tool or template?

This article caught my eye because I have just started with a new organization which is huge with many layers of management and many external stakeholders as well. Needless to say, I’m feeling the need to get a hold on who my stakeholders are at any given time. So this article couldn’t have come at a better time for me. Thanks!

I have a side-question. You mention your project history book. Can you tell me more about that? I could see it being useful for tracking CBAP hours or resume writing. What do you use it for? What all do you keep in it?
